YOU CAN DO THIS!
There is no need to put pressure on yourself by thinking you have to do ALL the things and be perfect. There is a grace period you need to show yourself when ditching store-based products and learning how to create or switch them out for better cleaner products.
Here’s a list of common household products that can be easily swapped out for natural home remedies:
1. All-Purpose Cleaner:
- Swap with: A mixture of white vinegar and water. Add essential oils like lemon or tea tree for added antibacterial properties.
2. Glass Cleaner:
- Swap with: Equal parts water and vinegar or a solution of water with a few drops of clean dish soap.
3. Disinfectant Wipes:
- Swap with: Homemade wipes using reusable cloths soaked in a solution of vinegar, water, and essential oils.
4. Laundry Detergent:
- Swap with: A mix of baking soda and washing soda, or use natural soap nuts that are biodegradable. I've used soap nuts with very good success and get mine from Azure Standard.
5. Fabric Softener:
- Swap with: White vinegar added to the rinse cycle or wool dryer balls to soften clothes naturally.
6. Air Freshener:
- Swap with: A pot of simmering water with herbs, citrus peels, or essential oils, or a spray made from water and essential oils.
7. Bug Repellent:
- Swap with: A mixture of witch hazel, vinegar, and essential oils like citronella or eucalyptus.
8. Toilet Bowl Cleaner:
- Swap with: Baking soda and vinegar. Pour them into the bowl, let sit, and scrub with a brush.
9. Dish Soap:
- Swap with: A homemade solution of liquid castile soap mixed with water and essential oils for fragrance.
10. Hand Soap:
- Swap with: Liquid castile soap diluted with water and essential oils for scent and antibacterial properties.
11. Moisturizer:
- Swap with: Coconut oil, shea butter, or olive oil for a natural skin moisturizer.
12. Sore Throat Remedy:
- Swap with: Honey and lemon in warm water, or herbal teas like chamomile or ginger.
13. Cough Syrup:
- Swap with: A mixture of honey, lemon juice, and ginger for a soothing remedy.
14. Deodorant:
- Swap with: A mixture of baking soda and coconut oil, or natural crystal deodorants. Find one that is fragrance free, aluminum free, and sulfate free is the best option.
15. First Aid Ointment:
- Swap with: A blend of coconut oil with tea tree oil or lavender for its antiseptic properties.
By making these simple swaps, you can create a healthier home environment while also teaching your children the value of natural solutions.
Here is where I get my essential oils, dish soap, hand soap, and laundry detergent from.
